Easy Diaper Cake for a Baby Shower

I have seen diaper cakes for sale on many online sites.  I decided to try to make one myself.  Most of the diaper cakes I’ve seen roll each individual diaper (which seems very time consuming).  This tutorial is an alternate way of making a diaper cake without individually rolling the diapers.

  • 50 Newborn or Size 1 Diapers
  • Ribbon
  • Large Rubber Bands or Elastic Cord tied off into three diameters (5 inch, 7 inch, 12 inch)
  • 3 Bamboo Skewers
  • Small, medium and large diameter cake pans or pots (or whatever you have on hand)

First, find three circular containers/pots/vases that are the diameter of the diaper cake you want to make.

Starting with the largest container, place the diapers into the container about 2 inches apart from the next one.

Repeat for all three containers.

For the largest container, place a roll of toilet paper in the middle to secure the center and then using your elastic cord, wrap the diapers around the center.

Repeat for each tier. For the middle tier, I put a half a toilet paper roll in the center for support.

Using bamboo skewers, poke through the center of each tier (making sure not to pierce the diapers).  This will provide support for each tier.

Take your decorative ribbon and wrap around each tier of the cake, covering the rubber bands.

Decorate the cake with other embellishments such as paper pom poms or even cute little baby toys.
