A few years ago, I joined a weight loss program and lost (and have kept off!
) 50 pounds. Part of the program included weekly meetings. At the meetings, a leader discussed weight loss tips, and distributed stickers and awards for people in the program who made progress over the past week. When I started the program, I thought the stickers and awards were a little silly. Here I was, a grown adult, with grown adults–getting stickers! But you know what? As I continued to attend the meetings, and earned my own stickers and awards- It felt really great! And dare I say, it was motivating.
This was my inspiration for my Goals Jars.
Anyone can set New Year’s Resolutions–and have wonderful intentions of keeping them. But most of us fall of the wagon by February. Am I right?
I wanted something tangible to mark my progress with.
When I found these fabulous diamonds, I knew I had what I wanted!
The diamonds come 800 pieces to a package, so you could easily create several goal jars!

January 1st has passed, but you can start today on a new healthy habit! Here are the supplies you will need to create your own goal jars:
- Diamond Ice Clear Filler 8mm
- Pint Wide Mouth Jars (with rings) (2)
- Rusted Metal Star Lid (1)
- Round White Tulle
- Washi Tape
- Baker’s Twine
- Metal Rimmed Tags (2)
- Dispensing Salt Container (see below)
- Craft Knife
- 1″ Circle Punch
- Scissors
The first thing you will want to do is raid your kitchen for your salt container! You need the kind that have a spout on the lid. These are really inexpensive in the grocery store.
Tear away the outside paper covering to reveal the seam on the lid.
Using a craft knife, cut the lid away from the container.
When the top is removed from the canister, take your craft knife and remove part of the inside of the rim of the lid to make it a little thinner. This will help it to fit your jar securely.

This will perfectly fit the top of your wide mouth pint jar, and allow you to dispense your diamonds as you earn them!
The next thing I did was paint the Rusty Metal lid silver. This is completely optional. You can also choose to paint your salt lid if you desire. I left mine white.
Count out the amount of diamonds to add to your jar, and add them now.
I am choosing to start a healthy habit that I would like to do each day. I counted out 365 diamonds.
Count out an equal amount of Round Tulle for each jar. I used 12 for each jar.
Place the tulle round on the mouth of the jars, and secure with the lids. For the salt container dispenser, you will layer(on top of the glass jar rim): tulle, salt container lid, then ring.
For the Metal Star lid you will layer: tulle, star lid, ring. Secure both lids firmly on the jars.
After the lids are secured, use a craft knife to cut out the interior tulle from the salt spout, and the center star on the metal lid. This will allow the diamonds to pass in and out of the jars.
Trim the tulle rounds as desired.
Then, using washi tape, wrap the outside of the jar rings.
Then, computer generate, or hand-write on the metal rimmed tags. You can add your goal itself to the tag (an idea would be “Pounds To Lose” and “Pounds Lost“) or add “What I Am Going To Do” and “What I Have Done” like I did on the samples.
For step-by-step, more detailed instructions of creating the metal rimmed tags click here:
Attach the personalized tags to the jar using Baker’s Twine.
Place your finished jars in an easily accessible place, and begin your journey!
When you complete an item, dispense a diamond from your “To Do” jar:
and add it to your “Done!” jar!
Enjoy watching your progress, as the diamonds move from one jar to the other.
Wishing you success and happiness with your goals!

I LOVE THIS. I am going to come up with a similar system to keep track of my own weight loss goals. Something a little smaller to keep at work. Thanks!
Thanks Morena. I am a huge fan of blingy diamonds for anything!
Such a pretty idea! I used to do a class reward program like this with jars and marbles, but I like your storage idea better! Pinning it!
