Spring Challenge: DIY Floral Wall Sconce

Can you think of anything more perfectly suited for a Spring Challenge than a floral wall sconce to hang your newly blossoming Spring flowers from? This beautifully simple floral wall sconce is easy to make with just a few supplies and is sure to brighten any room!

Step 1. Using the pennant flag as a template, cut a triangle shape from the chicken wire. You’re going to want the wire to be slightly wider than the flag to create the basket. I ended up cutting a few rows off from the top. Better to have too much than not enough!DIY Floral Wall Sconces - Cut WireStep 2. Fold over any exposed chicken wire that will be at the top of your basket. Wouldn’t want to cut yourself as you add pretty flowers!

DIY Floral Wall Sconces - Bend WireStep 3. Lay the wire triangle over the wood pennant flag and fold ends over to the back. Apply a liberal amount of glue and press second pennant flag to first, making sure to catch all the wire ends in between and to match up the holes at top.DIY Floral Wall Sconces - GlueStep 4. Use clothes pins to keep the flags together as the glue dries.

DIY Floral Wall Sconces - ClothespinsStep 5. Once the glue has dried completely, carefully push small pieces of the moss sheet through the chicken wire. Almost there!

DIY Floral Wall Sconces - Add GrassStep 6. Continue to push moss through until entire basket is covered. Make sure you leave enough space for the flowers!

DIY Floral Wall Sconces - Inside BasketStep 7. Cut approximately 10″ off of the wired sisal vine and secure through the pennant flag holes.

DIY Floral Wall Sconces - HandleStep 8. If you plan on using real flowers in your floral wall sconce basket, you can either use single stem water picks or a plastic sandwich bag cut to fit. If you’re using faux flowers, you’re good to go!
