DIY Easter Decor: Burlap and Fabric Bunting

One of my favorite types of holiday decorations are buntings. There are so many cute things you can do and different materials you can use. They add some fun and festivity to a wall, mantel or shelf! Plus, most of them store flat which is always a plus. Especially as my holiday decorations boxes seem to multiply like rabbits in the garage.

Easter-decor-bunting-Crafts-UnleashedThis Easter decor burlap and fabric bunting is super easy to make and would make a great addition to any spring decor. It’s also small enough to make a cute Easter decor wall display or set between picture frames.

Easter-decor-bunting-Crafts-Unleashed-2This Easter decor bunting is decorated with little fabric Easter eggs and sewn together with Baker’s twine (which I’m pretty much addicted to).

Supplies needed to make your own Easter decor bunting:supply2

The Charm Square pack has an assortment of pretty fabrics, in shades of blue, green and white. Pick out enough fabric squares for as many triangles as you’d like in your bunting. Mine is 7 triangles. With pinking shears, cut a triangle of fabric a little larger than your burlap bunting piece.

Easter-decor-bunting-Crafts-Unleashed-5Thread an embroidery needle with baker’s twine and using a running stitch, sew the burlap to the fabric along the two sides. Use the opposite color of baker’s twine as the fabric behind it. So when you have blue fabric behind, use green twine for your stitching.

Easter-decor-bunting-Crafts-Unleashed-6Cut out an egg shape from one of your fabrics and glue or iron on with fusible webbing. I found the fabrics with the brighter colors showed up best on the burlap.

Easter-decor-bunting-Crafts-Unleashed-7Continue making all your bunting pieces, changing up your backing pieces and using different fabrics for the eggs as well.

Easter-decor-bunting-Crafts-Unleashed-8Cut a long piece of baker’s twine and tie a bow at the end. Sew a running stitch along the top of the bunting pieces.

Easter-decor-bunting-Crafts-Unleashed-9Once you finish connecting all your bunting pieces, you’re all done! Now you can hang your cute new Easter decor bunting for spring.

About Bev

Bev’s little corner of the internet is Flamingo Toes. She grew up in a creative family of artists and seamstresses so it is no surprise that she loves to create. Bev began sewing as a teenager and made her own clothes and room décor even then. That love for DIY, crafting, and sewing has grown to include jewelry making, furniture refinishing and anything else she can learn. Her style could probably be described best as a mix between modern and vintage – she loves taking old styles and making them new and fun again. Bev is currently living in gorgeous Carlsbad, CA with her husband, two teenagers, and two cats, which are often more trouble than the two teenagers.

  1. […] Crafts Unleashed shows how you can make an Easter bunting out of burlap and fabric.  The flags in the bunting are made from triangles of burlap backed with fabric.  They’re stitched together with hand stitches and the edges are left raw and fraying.  Each flag has an Easter egg appliqued from a different fabric print.  They give links to order precut burlap triangles and a charm pack of coordinating fabrics for the back, but you could also cut your own pieces out of yardage and your scrap bin.  Go to Crafts Unleashed for the how-to.
