Mirrored Tissue Box Holder

Now that the cold weather has officially set in, it’s time to prepare for cold and flu season! I wanted to share a tutorial for glamming up tissue boxes. I know the tissue box companies have been printing prettier designs on the box, but sometimes they still end up looking cheesy. Are your ready for a fun paper mache craft project that would be the perfect DIY Christmas gift? Let’s get started…

Supplies needed to make your own mirrored tissue box holder:

Steps:
Flip your box upside down. The lid will be the bottom, and the larger part of the box is the top. Rub an even coat of Inka gold paint on all sides of the box. A thin layer of the paint is okay. Just make sure the paint is spread on fairly evenly. This paint dries almost instantly, so once you’ve covered all your surfaces, move on to the next step.

Peel the top off the tissue box and center it on the top of the box.

Trace the top, then carefully cut out the oval shape using your X-acto knife.

Now it’s time to glue on your mirrors. If there are any pieces that are crumbling or shattered, don’t use them. Arrange the mirrors on the box first, then glue them down. I put one large mirror in each corner, then added smaller mirrors to fill in the gaps.

For each of the sides of the box:
Center 5 large mirrors along one side. Then glue 6 small mirrors on top and under the large mirrors, centering them in the negative space left by the big mirrors. Wait 10 minutes for the glue to dry before moving on to the next side.

The last step is to accent the box with the navy ribbon. Cut a piece that is long enough to fit around the box, then glue it down.

Once it’s dry, your tissue box holder is ready to go!
