I’ve been on the lookout for vintage yardsticks to craft with. Apparently, so is everyone else! When I finally realized that it was going to take longer than I thought it would to find enough old yardsticks for a project I had in mind, I decided to just make my own faux vintage rulers. The added bonus to doing it myself was that I could make the rulers any color I wanted, AND I didn’t have to do any wood cutting. This quick project is fun to make, and now I have the cute DIY chalkboard I’ve been wishing for!
- 6 inch Wood Rulers (12)
- 7 x 10 inch Hanging Chalkboard Sign
- Alcohol Inks
- Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad
- Perfect Pearls Pigment Aged Patina Kit
- Wood Glue
Step one: Dilute the alcohol ink with water. I do this by spritzing some water on my craft sheet and then adding a few drops of ink. Paint the mixture onto the wood ruler to stain with color.
It would be cute to make several of these DIY chalkboards to make a colorful organizational wall. You could have one board for each member of your family, or each day of the week. Since you’re staining the rulers yourself, you can make them in colors that match your home’s decor.Google+
