Instructions:

I started by cutting a 12×12 piece of Core’dinations cardstock in half. This left me with a 6×12″ piece of cardstock to use as the base of my card (this is the blue piece of cardstock). I folded that piece in half to create a 6×6 card. Then, I cut a 5 1/2 x5/12″ square of cardstock (this is the green piece). Next, using my scalloped square punch, I punched 4 scalloped squares out of white cardstock.

Next, I chose my images from the Doodlecharms cartridge. This is a great year round cartridge with cute images for every season.

I chose a bunny, an easter basket with eggs and a flower and I cut each of those images at 2″.

I then layered them on my scalloped squares using my tape runner to adhere each cut-out to my square. Next, I threaded embroidery floss through the holes of my buttons and added a button to the center of each flower. I adhered the buttons with a 3D glue dot. Finally, I adhered each square to the green 5 1/2 x 5 1/2″ square and then adhered that square to the card. Simple, quick and easy. You can also use this card layout and the Doodlecharms cartridge to make cards for every occasion of the year.

This fun kid’s craft is perfect for reusing last year’s plastic Easter eggs or finding a new purpose for this year’s. The craft is perfect for after-school programs, classroom parties, or just a fun family night of crafting. The plastic Easter Bunny Eggs are great for decorating around your home, using for Easter egg-hunts (the eggs can still be opened up), or even for children to name and keep as imaginary pets. Below are step-by-step picture instructions on how to make decorate Easter Eggs into colorful fun Easter Bunnies.

Materials Needed:

Plastic Easter Eggs

Chenille Pipe Cleaners

Glue Dots

Pom Poms

Picture Nail

Instructions:

Begin by enlarging the two holes at the top of the egg or making them. The ones I had already had holes at the top I just took a large picture nail and widened the hole. The plastic is very thin so widening or even making the holes is very easy with a nail.

To make the ears cut two pipe cleaners about 4” long, fold them in half and insert the ends into the holes. Bend the pipe cleaner ends inside of the egg to hold the ears in place.

Decorate the front of the plastic eggs; I used movable eyes, small dots of adhesive foam or pom-poms for the nose, small pieces of pipe cleaner for the whiskers (held in place with glue dots), and adhesive foam for the mouth.

Using glue dots add a pom-pom on the back of the egg for the bunny’s tail. Place either coins or candy inside of the egg to get the bunny to stand.

Make several bunnies using different colored eggs.

Meet it Monday gives our readers the opportunity to learn a little more about products that Consumer Crafts carries. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to review the Tiny Bulb Strand of Lights by Victoria Lynn. I love little accent lights they can add warmth to a bow, a wreath, a table centerpiece, a mantle, signs, wedding decorations, and so much more. Victoria Lynn’s Teeny Bulb Battery Lights have white wire, clear bulbs, are for indoor use only, and require 2 “C” batteries.

When I first opened the package I immediately placed two “C” batteries into the battery compartment. The lights were small and perfect for centerpieces.

Next, I noticed that the cord coming from the battery box to the first bulb was quite long. I loved that I had a lot of cord to play with. When doing a centerpiece or wreath to have a long enough cord to hide the battery box is essential!

I placed my tiny bulb strand on a 12″ Grapevine Easter Wreath. To attach the battery pack I placed a floral wire through the battery box cover and closed it. By using the floral wire I was able to still close the battery pack and replace the batteries easily if I needed to.

The packaging mentions that the lights can be glued on wreaths. I wasn’t sure if they meant hot glue and I really didn’t feel comfortable gluing the wires on the wreath when they could so easily be attached with ribbon. I placed ribbon between each bulb in the strand. I had several bulbs left over which I saved to wrap around the bow on the top of the wreath.

Next, I attached faux flowers between the ribbon strands and added a large bow to completely hide the battery box on the back of the wreath.

The wreath looked adorable all light up at night!

A new twist on Easter baskets. How to create a whimsical Easter box for someone you love.

When my children were little, we loved to come up with fun, handcrafted gifts for the grandparents. A decorative Easter basket was just one of the many ideas we came up with. Today we’re going to learn how to make an alternative to the Easter basket—a decorative Easter gift box. It’s perfect for children of all ages because it can be tailored to meet each child’s individual attention span and skill level. The older the child, the more detailed the Easter box becomes. The younger the child, the simpler the box can be.

Just decorate, let dry, then fill with grandma’s (or pa’s) favorite candies!

Isn't this Easter box just adorable?!

Instructions:

Use a sponge to paint the Paper Mache box with two coats of Titanium White acrylic paint. Since the box has a porous surface, it will absorb any paint you use. By painting the surface with the white first, you build up a protective layer that will allow the true colors of the colored paint to show.

Paint base coat of white paint.

While the white is still wet, squeeze a small amount of Hooker’s Green onto the outer part of the lid, and spread with the sponge until the entire surface (top and sides) is covered. By using the same sponge you used to paint the white, and by painting the surface while it’s still wet, you’re blending the two colors, creating a softer, more “Eastery” green.

Add green paint.

Do the same thing to the bottom of the box. If you notice that parts of the box has too much green, dab on a little Titanium white. If you find you are getting white streaks, dab on a little Hunter’s green.

Allow to dry.

While the box is drying, wash the paint out of the sponge brush, then squeeze the sponge dry with a paper towel.

Once dried, paint the inside of the lid and the bottom of the box with Cad Yellow Med Hue. You’ll notice that this paint is a little transparent. You can continue to build up the yellow color by painting the surface, allowing to dry, and then repainting the surface until you reach the depth of yellow you like. Or, you can paint two coats of yellow and allow the darkness of the paper mache’d box to come through—thus giving it an aged feel.

Go ahead and squeeze directly into box.

Use the tulip stencil to paint two tulips inside the box. The easiest way to paint the tulips is to grab a little painter’s tape to hold down the stencil. Or, if you’re impatient like me, just hold the top and bottom corner of the stencil with a finger and a thumb.

Place stencil inside, on bottom of box.

Use a small brush to dab Primary Magenta onto the tulip and Pthalo Green on the stems, then gently remove the stencil and let dry before painting the second tulip.

Dab paint inside stencil.

Once both tulips have dried, dry brush Hunter’s Green on top of the stems of both tulips.

Leave it simple, or spruce it up.

Turn on the hot glue gun.

Use a low heat glue gun.

While the tulips dry, and the hot glue gun warms up, rip up some of the sheet moss.

Add moss to create landscape.

Place hot glue on top of the lid, then working in small sections, glue down the moss.

Once the lid is covered with moss, hot glue rabbits to the moss.

Glue bunnies to moss.

(This is where you can get creative with older kids — they can build a fence around the rabbits, include miniature eggs and ducks, or create an entire Easter scene with miniatures.)

Fill the box with the recipient’s favorite candies, place lid on top, and Voila! You’ve just created a fun and unique Easter gift for someone special.

Top with candies or miniature eggs.

On the finished product, you’ll notice some very festive items popping out of the moss, I used Smooth ‘N Melty Petite Mints by Guittard. In place of the mints, you can use miniature jelly beans, a tiny train set, or even puff paint (or icing) to spell out a message or name.

Completed Easter treat box

Get creative…

This is the third and final tutorial on decorating with beaded eggs. The first tutorial gave instructions on how to dye and blow the eggs and the second on how to wrap strands of beads around the eggs. This final tutorial is an add-on to the second tutorial. Follow the detailed step-by-step instructions in Tutorial 2 for wrapping the eggs with beads, and then refer to this tutorial (Tutorial 3) for placing a wire through the egg and hanging. I have also designed an option to hang several eggs from each other creating a wonderful hanging “spring” focal point for any room.

Third Tutorial – How to Hang Decorated Blown Eggs

Materials Needed:

1999-1571 Aluminum Jewelry Wire 18 gauge

Variety of 4mm transparent faceted beads

03981-3-T27AB 12mm multi-colored AB Berry Beads

BMB35783 Czech Summer Splash Bead Mix

I have used a variety of bead sizes in this craft to demonstrate you are not limited in the size and type of beads you can use. The different colors and sizes of beads only add to the creativity and glorious “spring” feel of these eggs.

Instructions:

1. Follow the instructions for making a decorated beaded egg in Tutorial 2. Then cut a piece of 18 gauge wire about 8” in length make a wire wrapped loop at one end. (See a tutorial for making a wrapped loop here.) Thread a bead onto the end.

2. Thread the wire through the loop of the strung beads, add another bead, and then thread it through the egg. Once wire is through the egg attach another bead, thread it through the wire loop, attach a bead, and finish with a final wrapped loop. Cut way any extra wire.

3. Your decorated egg can now be used as a hanging decoration.

4. Craft Variation: Make another hanging decorated egg, however, this time wire loop the egg around the previous egg’s bottom loop.

The possibilities with this craft are as endless and you’re only limited by your imagination. I would love to see your egg decorations please link back to these tutorials so that I can check out your wonderful spring-time egg creations!
