Vinyl + Cricut + Glass Vases= Cuteness!

I love decorating seasonally, but I also like crafts that can be easily altered or adapted for the next holiday coming up. That’s why I love crafting with vinyl. It’s self-adhesive and acts like a window-cling; that is, you can remove it without a sticky residue!

For this project, I used:

• Heart Vase Set
• The Cricut die-cutting machine
• “Storybook” Cricut cartridge
• “Cotton” (white) vinyl
• Pink vinyl (but a Lilac-purple would be cute, too!)
• Cricut tool kit
• Cricut Paper trimmer
• Cricut Spatula

Sand Unity Set has multiple uses

I decided to use the Sand Unity(heart vase) set from ConsumerCrafts because I was really attracted to that heart-shaped vase. And while it’s often used in wedding ceremonies, it would be just as cute for Valentine’s Day and Sweetest Day. Plus it comes with three elegant cylindrical vases that can be used for flowers or tealights. Bonus! I’m only going to use the heart-shaped on and two of the plain ones for this project.

Since I wanted to make a Valentines project that I could change up, I decided to use vinyl to make decals for my vase trio. It’s very easy to work with- it is basically like a big giant removable sticker on a paper backing. I cut a 4″ strip using my paper trimmer- no need to use with larger sections, as it could get a little unmanageable! I secured it to my sticky mat & loaded it into my Cricut. (You could use the Expression or the Personal versions for this project.)

I love using my Cricut and here was a perfect chance to let my “bug” do the work. I loaded in my Storybook cart, and selected the filigree heart. (”O” + SHIFT). I set the size to 1 3/4 inch.

TIP: to cut the vinyl, set the SPEED to”3″ and the PRESSURE to “3″. Works like a charm!

I cut 5 hearts out in the cotton vinyl.I then cut the “ever” out of the “Happily Ever After” image, by pressing “shift” and the icon button. Carefully remove the entire sheet of vinyl, including the paper backing, using the spatula.

Now I switched to the pink (or purple) vinyl. My next cut was making “shadows” of those same hearts, done by pressing the “shadow” button, then “shift”, then “O.” Don’t change the size- the machine will do that for you!) I only made 2 of these for the tall vases. Before removing the mat, cut on “Happily Ever After” image- I made mine 3 3/4″. Almost done!

Carefully remove the heart shadows pieces from the paper backing- you will probably need the “picker” tool from the toolkit for this. Place them on the tall vases, one each, centering the image. Then remove the filigree hearts and center them on the pink shadow pieces. use the picker tool to remove the center cut-outs and help you position the sticker. If it’s off center, that’s OK- since it’s repositionable, you can fuss with it a bit.

Position the decal over the front "point" of the vase.

Apply the remaining 3 filigree hearts to the heart-shaped vase, and then center the “Happily Ever After” decal right in the center. Use the while layer of “ever” in the middle to help it stand out!

You’re done! And when it’s time to decorate for another holiday, just peel off the vinyl and you’re ready to start over!
