Jenny’s Altered Storeganizer

latefeb2010 009Sometimes you look at desk organizer or a piece of storage equipment and think- “Yeah, it’s handy….I just wish it was cuter.” Both Lisa Falduto and I thought the same thing when we saw the Storganizer. It comes in taupe and moss green, which is fine…but…well, my tastes are a bit flashier, shall we say. So Lisa and I set ourselves and challenge (see hers here) and I set out to “bling out” my Storganizer!

Supply List:

latefeb2010 010To make my altered desk caddy, I cut my blue foamies into a long strip to cover the front. I then made a quick paper template to fit the sides, and attached all of the foam pieces on with my hot glue.

I then cut strips in my black cardstock about 2 1/4 inches wide, using my fancy-edged scissors. I also glued those pieces on with hot glue.

Then, I ran my sheer organza ribbon around the sides and front and tacked it down with…yup! More hot glue.

I chose the word “CREATE” from my glittered chipboard letters, and hot-glued those down, placing them off-center- they are about more on the left, to leave room for my fancy embellishment.

To make the feather embellishment, I covered a chipboard circle with blue foamie and trimmed it to fit. Then I glued 5 tear drop-shaped rhinestones on the circle, to mimic a flower. (The teardrops “point” to the center.) I then took 4 flower-shaped rhinestones and dabbed them with black Staz-on to tint them black, but you can skip this step. Then I added a dab of blue glitter in the middle of the flower rhinestones for a little more matchy-matchy look!

While they were drying, I hot glued some black and white feathers to the back of the chipboard circle.Lastly, hot-glued  a flower rhinestone in the middle of the circle embellishment, by the “C” in “Create”, and one on either side of the Storganizer.

SO! There it is. It took me about 2 hours for the whole thing, and I think it looks SO CUTE sitting on my worktable!

Have you altered an item to make it more functional/attractive? Let us know, maybe we’ll feature YOUR altered masterpiece sometime!
