Fine Art Product Review – Royal All Media Art Set
Royal All-Media Art Set

Royal All-Media Art Set

I’ll begin by saying the Royal All Media Art Set has everything you need to begin as an artist. It would make a great gift for any art student, just starting out, because it contains every basic art material you could want as a starter kit.

I felt inspired just opening it up and reviewing the contents! It felt like Christmas! I was feeling creatively blocked in coming up with project ideas, and when I opened up this kit, the creative juices immediately started to flow. It was exciting to see that it even had not one but TWO flat canvases included to begin working with acrylics and/or oils. There is something wonderful about having everything you need at your fingertips as an artist. I wanted to get right into painting!

I should also mention the price – an EXCELLENT value at $49.97. I must reiterate, this would be the perfect gift for an art student, because it has almost everything they need to experiment with these basic art materials.

A very minor glitch when I first received it: the kit needed some minor assembly, and there were no instructions included to show how to do this assembly (mildly irritating). Granted, I have had extensive experience assembling baby swings, furniture, and toys (with major assembly) for my kids at home. I’ve had so much experience, in fact, that I rarely use instructions anyway;  so I had no problem figuring it out by simply looking at the photo on the front of the package. However, for those of you who may need the clear visual instructions, here you go:

The only elements NOT included that you will still need:

  • Turpentine/other solvent to clean your brushes after oil painting.
  • Linseed oil/other solvent to use as a thinner for your oil paint.
  • An additional watercolor pad would be good. The pad included is a little flimsy for my taste, but is perfect as a sketchpad when using the pastels in your kit. I’d highly recommend getting the following pad to use for watercolor painting: watercolor, 140lb, acid free, med. weight, cold press. It’s very affordable (only $3.97), and well worth the investment in my opinion.

And to top it all off, the great thing about mail order is you have a great big box left over that your kids can play with (let the creativity begin)!
