Technique: Paper Craft layering

dimension

As a paper crafter I use a lot of dimension in my work.  Not that I do not like flat, but for me there is something about the look and feel of something that pops up that I cannot resist.  Layering and dimension is interesting to look at and to touch.  I have to admit that this is probably one of my favorite techniques and you will see it a lot in my work.  There are so many ways to layer, so many materials you can use when you layer items.  You may wonder how I ever get my scrapbook albums to close.  Lets just say that I use a lot of spine dividers in my post bound albums!

The layering that I did on this project is fairly simple.  I used Darice Linen look Chipboard shapes to begin my layering.  I simply punched out my chipboard flower and laid it face down on the back side of my patterned paper.  Next I traced around the outside edge of the flower using a pencil, then took my micro-tip scissors and cut out my flower shape.  You can use your Darice adhesive roller to secure your shape on top of your chipboard piece or you can also use a glue stick or Mod Podge.  I used my Darice adhesive roller.

Once I had all 3 of my flowers complete I added them to my box using Therm O Web foam squares, again another layer of dimension on my project.  Next I took some green card stock and cut 3 leaves.  I bent these leaves lengthwise down the center and then attached them to my box with adhesive.  Then simply bend the ends up a bit to raise them slightly off the box.  Again, you have just added dimension and interest to your project.

My final layer is adding the Darice Hot Fix glass stones to the center of each flower.  I used the Darice Rhinestone Setter Hot Fix applicator to place the glass stones on my project.  When I look at the top of my box it seems so much more interesting than if I would have just put down 3 flat flowers.

Now I challenge you to create something with layers. It may be a card, an altered item, a scrapbook page, or maybe even a poster you are working on for your child’s homework assignment.  No matter what you are creating with your paper crafting supplies, give layering a try.  It can be fun and the results are so unique!

I am new to papercrafting and just upgraded from a cricut personal cutter to an expressions machine and I am loving it. Just yesterday I created my first Sunflower layered card and it came out pretty good all considering I kept getting glue dots stuck on my finger :-)
