“Christmas In July” Holiday Wreath

Christmas in July, celebrations happen throughout the world.  July in Australia, is one of their colder months, their mountains are covered in snow, and their ski resorts are in full bloom.  A perfect time to celebrate Christmas festivities!  Did you know the World Santa Claus Congress meets annually every July in Copenhagen?  Fun!

In the United States, Christmas in July, is often a time to take advantage of the store savings, start to plan your Christmas list, and start to make holiday decorations and gifts.

In the spirit of Christmas in July, I designed a simple holiday wreath. I wanted to incorporate greens and reds and by adding the baby’s breath floral picks and the heart-shaped candy canes it really gave it a touch of elegance.

I began with a grapevine wreath: one of my favorite wreath products.  The advantages to using grapevine wreaths are: they are easy to thread floral picks through; they add dimension to your wreath; and they can be re-used from season to season just by changing out the floral picks.

I placed several of the baby’s breath picks through the grapevine wreath.  The baby’s breath comes three strands to a pick.  I used wire cutters to cut the strands down to one each.  By making the picks smaller it was easier to place them among the branches of the grapevine wreath.

Next, I took two candy canes and hot glued them together into the shape of a heart.  I hot glued the ribbon to the back of the heart and attached it to the back of the wreath.  I also added a ribbon loop at the top for hanging the wreath.

The greatest thing about this wreath is its versatility and simplicity.  The wreath can be hung in July, in December, or even left up through February for Valentine’s Day.

I love the baby’s breath! It’s so delicate and simple, but really makes a statement. I wonder how it would look mixed with lilies of the valley (my daughter’s birth flower)?

I think this wreath is beautiful. It is a simple and elegant idea. This is something you would see in a catalog. I agree with the comment above that you could put a variety of things hanging in the middle to go with different seasons. For easter you could put one or three painted paper mache easter eggs. You could also add a few other spring flowers to the baby’s breath.

I love this wreath/ The baby’s breath is great for any occassion and with the addition of a larger brighly colored flower and a perky ribbon and/or you can make this an outstanding display piece. If you want too. I also like to stick on a little bug, insect, frog or bird. Just to make a concersation piece or to surprise someone.
