Create whimsical she art style stacked storage boxes with a little paint, a few stamps, some pearls and one of my new favorite go to supplies – washi tape.
Supplies needed to create your own she art style storage boxes:
- Nested Paper Mache Boxes
- Washi Tape
- DecoArt Crafter’s Acrylic Paint – I used Bright Orange, Wild Green, Poppy Orange, Turquoise, Fuchsia, and Coastal Blue
- Black Sharpie Marker
- Scissors
- White Cardstock
- Spectrum Nior Markers
- Embellishments of Your Choice – Buttons, Pearls, Clear Stamps, etc.
To create the she art style distressed paint finish, I find the best technique is to dry brush on paint in light layers and to use a paper towel or old cloth to remove excess. Here is the first very light layer:
Add a second color in a light coat to build upon the effect.
This is the second and third layer for the blue purple hues. On this box, layer the blues and purple.
This is the second and third layer for the blue and green hue. On this box, layer the blues and greens. On the other box, layer the oranges.
Use a paper towel to blend the paints and to remove paint down to the base. You can add and remove as much as you want. There is no real right or wrong way to make a distressed look. The level of distressing is up to you.
To embellish the boxes in a she art style, you can freehand the scallops along the edges with a sharpie marker. I made simple scallops and dots. Nothing super fancy and nothing is perfect. To make the lids stand out, I added strips of washi tape. I really love how the black and white dots make everything pop.
To create the stamped flowers – you will need to stamp the flowers on white paper. Color the stamps in with Spectrum Noir markers. Use scissors to cut out the flowers and adhere to the boxes. I added pearls to the center of the boxes and also to the stacked buttons. Adhere the the buttons to the box. If you are using the boxes for storage and want to label them, stamp the words of what is in each box.
There you have it. You can now let your creativity flow and create she art style distressed stacked boxes
