Easy Multi-Photo {Summer Fun} Layout

If you haven’t yet made the investment of adding large (giga/mega) circle punches to your craft supply, maybe this post will convince you!

I love these punches, and use them so much that they have a permanent spot on my crafting table.

The great thing about the large circle punches, is that they have matching scallop-edged punches that are made to nest with the plain-edged punches. It adds a subtle flair to a project, and couldn’t be easier!

This is one of my favorite techniques when I want to add a lot of photos to a layout.

I don’t mean to brag here, but on the layout I am going to walk you through, I used 12 4×6 photos. TWELVE!  I could have used even more, very easily. And, it doesn’t look or feel “crowded.” I like being able to utilize a standard print size (4×6)  for my layouts, it saves me time when I do not have to re-size and re-print.

Another great thing about this quick and easy layout? It is all cardstock.

You can duplicate this layout using  colors of your choice.

Here is what you will need:

Directions:

To get started, select a light blue and a dark blue from your Core’dinations paper stack.

Using a scoring board, make score marks around the entire perimeter of the dark blue 12×12  piece of cardstock, at about 1/4″.

Trim the light blue paper to 11 1/4″ x 11 1/4″. Score the perimeter of the light blue paper as well.

Using the Sand-it Gadget, sand all edges of both pieces of cardstock. This will give you a nice, framed edge.

Adhere the light blue cardstock to the center of the dark blue cardstock. This will be the base for your project.

Select the bright yellow sheet of cardstock from the Core’dinations Jillian Dot Collection.

Trim three (3) 2×12″ strips.

Using the Sand-it Gadget, sand all strips, and adhere them to the layout as shown:

Now gather the photos your would like to use for the layout. Turn the 2 3/4 inch circle punch over to the back side. Insert your photo into the hole of the punch, and line up your photo. This will show you exactly what you will get when you make the punch. (You can get two punches out of one 6×4″ photo!)

Here is the second punch on this photo:

Continue punching all of your photos, and set them aside.

Fold a piece of cardstock in half.

Then, take the fold side of the paper, and insert it into your 2 3/4″ paper punch.

*Very Important!* Make sure to leave a small section of the fold intact when you punch this shape.

(See the little section at the bottom?)

You should be left with a folded circle “card.”

Here is where you can personalize your layout. If you need to add a lot of photos, continue to make these folded “cards” to house your photos. You can also use the folded “cards” for hidden journaling.

Print your journaling, and use the large circle punch to cut it out.

You can add photos to the inside and outside of the folded “cards.”

When you add a photo, or a journaling circle to the inside of the folded “card” you will need to slightly trim them where the fold of the “card”  is.

Can you see the little piece I trimmed? This allows the “card” to fold evenly.

Create as many folding “cards” as you would like.

Then, using your 3″ scalloped circle punch cut various colors of Core’dinations cardstock as desired. I used three colors: lime green, fuchsia, and orange.

Mat your punched photos, and completed folded “cards” onto the cut scalloped circles, and then onto your layout.

Before you adhere the top photo to the folded “card,” it is handy to add a small ribbon loop with glue dots, to make it easy to lift the card open. (And it just looks cute.)

For the title, I added some Felties Alphabet letters to the front of one of the circles.

To add the sub-title to this layout, I used another technique that I love to use when I am making cards and layouts using Core’dinations cardstock. The unique thing about Core’dinations is that the cardstock has a lighter core color.

I ran a thin strip of Core’dinations through my old-school Dymo Label Maker:

The Dymo embosses the cardstock with alphabet letters, and then, when the letters are sanded, the lighter core comes through, and reveals the letters.

Isn’t that cool?

And it makes it super easy to match your titles or journaling to your project.

That’s it!

It literally took me longer to type this tutorial up, than to complete the layout.

The nesting punches make scrapbooking multiple photo layouts a breeze.

They are also great for mini-albums.

The punches come in different shapes as well.

Pick up some large punches today, and start whittling away at those stacks of photos!
