Summer Kid’s Crafts: Paper Plate Jelly Fish

My family reunion is coming up this weekend and my family is in charge of decorating the pavilion.  We are doing an “Under the Sea” theme this year and are looking for inexpensive ways to jazz it up with summer crafts. I found a really cute idea on how to make Jelly Fish on Pinterest.  Of course, I had to tweak the idea to make it more affordable and appropriate as a kid’s craft. So here is what I came up with. I gathered up my son and nieces for some crafting time and started painting!

Supplies:

First, pick out your paint colors. I added water to the paint so it would give the bowls a water color look. Paint the bottom and outside of the bowls. Use any color and make any pattern that you’d like. We did solid jelly fish and different patterns. Set them aside and let dry.

Once dry, poke two holes in the top of the bowl, towards the outer edge. String your jelly cord through and tie underneath (which is the inside of the bowl). Next, add your ribbon. I added the curling ribbon first and cut 3-4 strands in different lengths. You want them to be long. You can adhere the ribbons onto the bowl using glue dots. Cut crepe paper in different lengths and add to the bowl as well. We stuck these closer to the rim of the bowl.  I cut the sheer ribbon, twisted it and then glued it in the middle of the bowl.

The last step is to add the wiggley eyes using glue dots.

The kids had so much fun creating these jelly fish and they are going to look great hanging around the pavilion!
