Ornament Challenge 2011: Christmas Ribbon Flower

I am so excited to be participating in our Crafts Unleashed Ornament Designer Challenge.  I wanted to make an ornament that was reflective of my crafting style. I seriously love ribbon and thought it was only fitting that my ornament be made from it.  Consumer Crafts sells a huge variety of poly-satin floral ribbon which is perfect for creating ornaments.  The pros of poly-satin are that it is a stiff ribbon that holds its shape and it doesn’t fray!  No fraying means it is not necessary to seal the ribbon and you can cut it into any shape you want!

Materials Needed to Make a Christmas Ribbon Flower Ornament:

• 2902-101 Poly Satin Ribbon-White-1 3/8 inch
• 2902-120 Poly Satin Ribbon-Holiday Green-2.5 inch
• 2902-106 Poly Satin Ribbon-Red-5/8 inch
• BOW3050 Bowdabra gold wire 100 yard value pack
• 02PFS-21-P White Pearl Stamen
• Thread
• Sewing Needle
• Hot Glue Gun

I love that the material list is so simple!  I am also thrilled that using the material list I can make probably over 15 Christmas Ribbon Ornaments.  I plan to create ornaments for my children’s teachers, neighbors, and as hostess gifts for upcoming holiday parties.

I stitched the 2.5″ holiday green ribbon to create leaves.

The white 1 3/8″ ribbon was the perfect size for the white petals.

And, the 5/8″ red poly-satin was the best size for making red ribbon spikes.  I sewed the red spikes and white pearl stamens together to form the top of the flower.

I stacked each flower part, one on top of the other, and hand-stitched all the pieces together to form the Christmas flower ornament.

Bowdabra Bow Wire works awesome to hang Christmas ornaments.  I hot glued the wire to the back of the ornament and then finished the ornament with a circle cut out from the green poly-satin ribbon.

My ornament is complete and hanging on our family Christmas tree.
