Create fall napkin rings and enjoy my favorite season with me! I think fall is my favorite because I can open the windows and let in the breeze and start baking with pumpkin. We tend to entertain more in the fall, too…the kids are back in school and we still want to hold onto the festivities of summer. When I entertain, I like to set the stage and decorate not only my home, but the dinner table too. My decorating budget is not always huge, so I came up with an inexpensive way to create fall napkin rings.
Materials to create fall napkin rings:
- Empty Paper Towel Rolls
- Marker
- Burlap
- Sculpey Polymer Clay – White
- Twine or Hemp
- Fabri-Tac
- DecoArt Acrylic Paint – Burnt Umber
- Mod Podge Matte
- Mold Making Powder - Precious Impressions
- Misc.: craft knife, scissors, ruler, tape measure, oven, foil or craft baking tray, paper towels, paint brush.
Directions for fall napkin rings:
Cut the burlap into 3×6 inch strips. Mark your paper towel rolls every two inches. Cut the roll and trim the edges of the roll so they are level. Draw a line of glue on the tube. Wrap the tube with burlap. Apply glue to the inside of the tube and tuck the edges in. Hold in place for a few seconds allowing the glue to dry.
To make the clay buttons, follow the direction on the Mold Making Powder to make the molds. When the molds are ready, press the clay into the mold. Remove any excess and remove the molded clay. Repeat as many times as needed for the number of fall napkin rings you want. (I like to make a few extra to decorate other things, too.) Bake according to package directions. Remove from oven and let cool.
Once the clay pieces are cool, you can apply a layer of paint. Use a paper towel to remove the excess paint. Allow the paint to dry and then apply a coat of Mod Podge Matte finish to seal the pieces. Let dry then apply an additional coat of the Mod Podge. Place a dollop of adhesive on the back of the clay piece and press onto the burlap covered napkin ring. Hold securely in place until the glue has dried.
I think this is a pretty and easy craft to make and inexpensive since you are using paper towel rolls as your base. I loved my fall napkin rings so much that I made a few extra pieces of decor with them. I made a bow to attach to my utensil caddy, and a wrap on a jar to use as a candle holder.

Mary, I thought I typed that too. I used a knob from my dresser and a button with a shank on it for the molds.
But what did you use to press into the mold material to make those specific buttons? I can see they are not buttons because they have no holes, so what could they be?
