It’s finally October and now I can stop feeling guilty about having my Halloween décor out around my house! I love whimsical Halloween décor, nothing too dark or creepy. Take this witch hat for instance, I just had to cover it in ruffles and glitter!!!

Want to make your own ruffle witch hat?

Supplies needed to make your own ruffled witch hat:

The first thing I did was paint the paper mache hat with the black craft paint. I didn’t want the paper mache color to show through the ribbon ruffles.

To ruffle the ribbons, I used the Sew Easy floss and craft needles. I started with a piece of the thread through one of the needles and knotted at the end. Then I simply did a running stitch down the length of the ribbon.

Once I had ruffled enough of the ribbon to make it once around the hat, I cut off the ribbon. Then I pulled on the thread and the ribbon ruffled right up. To hold the ruffle, simply tie a knot at the other end of the thread. Look at all those beautiful ruffles!!!

I used my glue gun to glue the ruffled ribbons to the paper mache hat. I glued along where the thread line went through the ribbon.

I decided that the hat was missing something and it could probably use some sparkle ,too! I painted a couple wood letters with the black craft paint and then added some black glitter. Once they were dry, I attached them with some more hot glue.

This ruffle witch hat could easily be tweaked to match your Halloween décor- simply change out the colors to match the rest of your home.

Or if you prefer something a little creepier, you can add in some crawly spiders. I personally love my ruffle witch hat!

  1. Super cute!

Today I went out and bought the papier mache hat, but I just about fainted when I priced the ribbon. So, no ruffly hat for me right now. I’ll have to wait until I’ve got a coupon or two.

  2. Oooh, I love the ruffles too!

  3. Fabulous idea! Loving those ruffles! And glad to see someone else’s glue gun looks as “used” as mine. ;)
