Holiday Paper Tree Decorations

I save leftover scraps of wrapping paper, scrapbooking paper, fabric etc.  I just can’t let pretty paper go to waste.  This project is great for all those small scraps of paper you may have saved or you could upcycle an old ripped gift bag.  Any type of pretty paper would work perfect for this Christmas paper tree decor!

Paper-tree-decor-Crafts-Unleashed-2Supplies needed to make your own paper tree decorations:

Cut out a template for the leaves of the paper tree and set it aside.  I just free handed a shape – about 1.5 inches long and 1 inch wide.  You can do any shape you want, just make sure to taper it on one end. That will help with gluing it on the cone. If you have a heart shaped  punch you could also use that.

wrapping-paper-tree-2Fold your paper into an accordion shape. Cut out the template.  The reason you are folding it into an accordion shape is to cut multiple leaves at one time.

wrapping-paper-tree-1.1You will need to cut out approximately 120 leaves.  I used two types of paper, but you can use one or as many as your heart desires.

wrapping-paper-tree-3Stack the leaves right side up and using a pen, curl the paper (you want to curl it width-wise).

wrapping-paper-tree-4Using tacky glue, place the leaves in a row on the bottom of the cone.  I usually stagger the leaves on one row and then put different leaves on the alternate spaces.

wrapping-paper-tree-5Continue gluing all the way to the top of the tree.

wrapping-paper-tree-6For the top of the tree, cut out a triangle cone shape, as pictured below, to wrap at the tip of the cone.
